Aemula Oldies Formerly iDOS A History

Aemula Oldies Formerly iDOS A History

Sorry for my Procrastination on writing this. But Im writing it now.

Anyway, On October 26, 2010, iDOS was released. It was a port of DOSBox for iOS, It was possible to do many things on it, You could Mount the iOS filesystem, You could install any game you wanted and you could even install Windows!....which is why Apple PULLED it after only 4 hours (Record time!) iDOS was revived 3 Days Later as DOSPad. It was the same thing as iDOS, only it was/is available in Cydia. On January 21, 2011 iDOS 2.0.1 hit the App Store but its functionality was stripped, You could no longer access the iOS filesystem. But the emulation rabbit hole was still open. Using iFunBox or iExplorer, you could still load Games and Windows. It was on there for a day (longer than iDOS 1.0) and then got pulled again. On December 21, 2011, a third version of iDOS was released under a different name, "Aemula Oldies". Why is it called this? Because this new version dropped the DOSBox core for a home-made emulator, Aemula. Aemula is a 80486-PC emulator, whose goal is to run Civilization II on a Tablet. Its actually pretty similar to DOSBox, It just doesnt have built in command line access or directory mounting. Anyway, Aemula Oldies dropped built-in Command Line access (Although you can side-load a disk image with edited Play.bat. [See my "How to Access DOS Prompt in Aemula Oldies" post]) but it had 12 (now 17) built in games and the rabbit hole was still open, It was/is harder to add games (compared to iDOS 2.) but it was/is still there. Surprisingly, more than a year after its debut, Its still on the App Store and youd know, I included not-so-subtle references.

Anyway, thats iDOS. Wanna try Aemula Oldies? Search for it in the App Store, Its FREE!

You might also like DOSPad (Cydia) Its also FREE! Standalone versions of Aemula are available. On Cydia (Price Unknown) and on Google Play (99) DOSBox for Android is on Google Play F-R-E-E FREEEEEE!
