Samsung Unveils Enhanced Series 7 Chronos and New Ultrabooks ahead of CES 2013 FULL SPECS
Samsung seem to be getting their CES announcements in before CES actually happens, they have announced two devices in its Series 7 line of notebook. Both have 1920×1080 full HD displays with the option of full screen 10 finger multi-touch, which I am coming to the conclusion is an essential feature for Windows 8. The Ultra has an 8 hour battery life and the Chronos has 11 hours battery. Both look like very nice devices but there are no price details yet, I will get more details about them next week during the show, but for now heres what we know:
New Series 7 Chronos – Professional, Powerful Performer
Delivering professional performance in a thinner and lighter form factor, the new Series 7 Chronos provides enhanced processing power for professional users and a new software solution RAMaccelerator**** that provides up to a 150 percent increase in speed for browsing and running apps by taking advantage of the existing memory. Ten-finger multi-touch capabilities enhance the overall experience, allowing the user to interact directly with the screen, as well as the touchpad and keyboard. Samsung Ativ S May be Delayed to 2013
Samsungs first Windows Phone 8 in the form of the Ativ S may be the subject of a further delay, SamMobile suggests that, in Europe at least, the Ativ S may launch sometime during 2013. Samsungs first Windows Phone 8 device was due to launch during mid-November, but a current release date is unknown.
For the Ativ S, Samsung swapped the Exynos 4412 quad-core system-on-chip for a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8260 model clocked at 1.5Ghz, accompanied by an Adreno 225 GPU.
General technical specifications are similar to the Galaxy S3, with the Ativ S featuring 1GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB onboard storage, support for NFC, a microSD card slot and a 2,300mAh battery.
The smartphone also sports a 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and a front facing 1.9-megapixel camera. Its screen, meanwhile, is a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display with a 1,280 x 720 resolution covered with Gorilla Glass 2.

March 2013 High End Smartphone Buyers Guide
Phones without LTE need not apply. With two LTE offerings available at the mid-level, I will not be including any phones in the over Php20,000 category which do not offer LTE connectivity.
If your budget is closer to 30K, I recommend a bit of patience. If you spend this much money, you probably want to keep your phone for some time, and the Sony Xperia Z, Sony Xperia ZL, HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S IV are just a month of two away from their Philippine release.

1. Sony Xperia V (Smart Data Plan 2000/Php23,800) - HD + LTE
The Sony Xperia V has a 4.3-inch 720p display. The display has 354 pixels per inch, Sharper than Apples iPhone. It is powered by the dual core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Krait processor. It has a a 13 MP camera, but performance is a bit below the 8MP units you find on Apples iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy S III.
The real selling point of this phone is the HSPA+ and LTE radio. All in all, nothing spectacular, but with LTE and a low price, it is a good deal. The next phone on the list, will make you think twice about getting a Sony Xperia V though,
This phone come with Android 4.0.4 out of the box, but an update to Jelly Bean has been confirmed for this phone. Internal storage is less than the Xperia Acro S, at 8 GB, but it does come with a microSD card slot. The battery is a 1750 mAH unit, but
it gets decent but not great battery life.

2. Nokia Lumia 920 (Php25,750) - This could be the best smartphone in the Philippine market today
The Windows Phone 8 powered Nokia Lumia 920 uses the same processor and has as much RAM as the Sony Xperia V, but comes with a larger 4.5-inch HD (768 x 1280) PureMotion HD+ display with Clear Black technology, But this phone is all about the camera. The Lumia 920 has a 8MP primary camera with Carl Zeiss Optics and optical image stabilization, the first for a smartphone. A gyroscope is used to detect the motion of the phone and the whole optical assembly moves in the opposite direction to cancel out the movement. That happens 500 times a second. Finally an LTE chip rounds out the package.
If you are buying a high end phone for cash this month, and willing to give Windows Phone 8 a try, this is the phone to buy this month.

3. Apple iPhone 5 (Plan 2499/Starts at Php33,600) - The best iPhone ever
The Apple iPhone 5 is the best iPhone every built. The main feature of the iPhone 5 is the new 4-inch (640 x 1136) display. These is a pretty substantial upgrade behind the display. Inside you have 1 GB of RAM and the new dual core A6 processor, making this twice as powerful as the iPhone 4S. The A6 processor is built on 32 nm technology, which gives the iPhone 5 not only more power, but also better battery life than previous iPhones. The 8 MP camera is rivaled only by the 8MP camera on Samsung phones, and the dedicated camera centric smartphones. Yes, it now has LTE activated.
The Apple iPhone 5 comes in three models, with 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB of storage. Storage is not expandable.
It is an excellent choice, if you are happy with a 4-inch or so display.
This phone is available from both carriers at Plan 2499, but Globe Plan 1799 plus Php4,800 cash or Smarts Data Plan 2000 plus Php2,500 cash are better deals.

Asus MWC 2013 Press Conference Recap
The Asus MWC press event just ended and my impressions of the event is that the products shown are ok but its going to be outdated by the time it reach some markets. Move aside that and ill give you a full recap of the event which started about 15 minutes late because the livestream was not working. As usual to Asus events it always starts with some magic which lasts for a while then official business is being talked. It starts of with Jonney Shih talking about the Asus cloud services which is comprising of a few elements like instant photo share, cloud storage, etc. Then the fun bit is when he announces the Padfone Infinity which is yet another padfone which has better specs. It seemed that not too long ago that the Padfone 2 was announced. The device sports a 5" FHD IPS display, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a 13MP camera and a 1.7GHz snapdragon 600 processor. Jonney is calling it the Superphone. As to all padfone the station is also here in the Padfone infinity, this time around it has a 1920 X 1200 resolution and with the phone plugged in the station the battery life of the Padfone can be extended up to 3 times. The device will cost 999 euros for the whole set, other pricings were not disclosed. Soon after that Jonney yet again unveils another mobile device called the fonepad which is basically a phablet. Specs include a 7" 1280 X 800 display, 1GB of RAM, Android 4.1, optional cameras and 8/16GB of memory which is expandable via microSD card. The fonepad is in Asuss eyes a bridge between a phone and tablet. The device also features the all new Intel Atom Z2420 which has battery saving features to extend the fonepads battery life. Not to mention, both of the devices shown off today are made using aluminum opposed to plastic in previous gen devices. Thats pretty much what happened.
