Caecilius gave Quintus a discuss, because he was celebrating his birthday. Then Caecilius leads his son to the baths, where the exercise ground was. Servants get Quintus discus.
Caecilius and his son, after they entered the baths, then hurried to the exercising ground. There was a big crowd in the exercising ground. Quintus caught sight of many young athletic man fighting. Quintus saw many statues in the exercise room.
" Pompeiian athletes have put up many well-known statues" Said Caecilius
In the exercise ground there was a large colonnade. Many spectators in the colonnade were standing. The servants were offering wine to the spectators.
Quintus was near the crowd and saw the colonnade. A large athlete was standing in the middle of the crowd.
" Who is that athlete? Asked Quintus.
" That is Milo, the famous athlete," Responded Caecilius.
Caecilius and Quintus hurried to the athlete Milo. Quintus shows the athlete the new disk.
After Milo inspects the disk , he proceeds to go to the middle of the exercising grounds. The athletes caught sight of the exercise grounds, and threw the disk. This disk flew high through the air. Spectators praised the athletes. Servants searched for Milos disk.After the servants found the disk, they returned it to Milo. They servants are offering the disk to the athletes. However, they did not accept the disk.
"This disc is not mine" Said Milo
The servant handed over the disc to Quintus. Then the young man threw the disk. The disk again flew in the air. Then the disk struck the statue.
" Oh dear!" Yelled Caecilius " The statue has a broken nose"
Quintus was smiling. The people of Pompeii were smiling. Then Milo was not smiling.
"Why are you not smiling? " The young man asked.
Milo was very angry.
"Pest" Responded the athlete. " That was my statue!"
